Comprehensive Hearing Test

Hearing test in clinic

Do you need a Hearing test?

At Check My Hearing, we specialize in providing thorough, professional hearing tests to help you understand your hearing health. Whether you’re experiencing hearing difficulties or simply want a routine check-up, our expert team ensures a comfortable, straightforward process. Here’s what you can expect when booking a hearing test with us.

What Is a Hearing Test?

A hearing test is a simple yet comprehensive assessment that evaluates how well you hear various sounds and frequencies. Our hearing care specialists use state-of-the-art equipment to measure your hearing ability and determine if any issues, such as hearing loss, are present.

Why Is a Hearing Test Important?

Hearing loss often develops gradually, making it hard to notice. Early detection is key to preserving your hearing and improving your quality of life. Regular hearing tests help identify any changes in your hearing, allowing us to recommend suitable treatments or hearing aids if needed.

The Hearing Test Process at Check My Hearing

Your Audiology appointment

1. Initial Consultation

Your hearing test begins with a friendly discussion about your hearing concerns, medical history, and lifestyle. We want to understand the situations where you notice hearing difficulties, such as conversations in noisy environments or listening to the TV.

2. Otoscopy (Ear Examination)

Before the hearing test, we perform an otoscopy, where we examine your ear canal and eardrum. This helps us check for any wax buildup, infection, or other conditions that could affect your hearing or need medical attention before the hearing test.

3. Pure-Tone Audiometry

During the pure-tone audiometry test, you'll wear headphones and listen to different tones at various pitches and volumes. This test helps us measure your hearing thresholds and identify any potential hearing loss. We ask you to press a button or raise your hand whenever you hear a sound, even if it's faint.

4. Speech Testing

Our speech audiometry test evaluates how well you understand speech at different volumes. You'll listen to recorded words or sentences and repeat them back to the audiologist. This step helps us assess how well you can hear and understand speech in real-life situations.

5. Tympanometry (Middle Ear Test)

For a complete evaluation, we may conduct tympanometry to check how well your eardrum moves. This helps us detect issues like fluid behind the eardrum, ear infections, or Eustachian tube dysfunction, which can affect your hearing.

Understanding Your Hearing Test Results

Once your hearing test is complete, we’ll go through the results with you. If there are signs of hearing loss, we’ll discuss possible solutions, including hearing aids, lifestyle changes, or a referral to an ENT specialist if further medical investigation is needed.

When Should You Get a Hearing Test?

  • Difficulty understanding conversations
  • Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
  • Listening to TV or music at higher volumes
  • A feeling of pressure or blockage in your ears
  • Family history of hearing loss
  • Exposure to loud environments
